Eating, we kill. The wish to be innocent is dangerous.
1. Humans are animals, too. Animals do not eat everything. They eat what agrees with them and does not destroy their own species. I am an animal as well.
2. Animal use can only be modified rapidly in industrial societies. Animal use has to serve the survival of our species. Culture is but a subsystem of nature. We all are animals and a part of evolution of which we will drop out of some day.
3. Animal welfare is apparent at once, health, safety, sociality and freedom of fear are criteria for animal husbandry. For the animals’ welfare as well as for our own, any form of keeping animals and of killing them as well should take account of the state of consciousness.
What about plants? It is crucial to be aware that we cannot wipe away our guilt but have to live with it – in the best case in open battle for the most pragmatic solution: taking suffering into account, but minimising the amount. More…
